Christmas Party 2012 Once again a couple dozen of our members gathered at the Delhi Cafe for the annual Christmas party. President Doug Fulk recognized the officers, board members and volunteers who help make our club function smoothly. Following dinner our resident comedian J P emceed the gift exchange with his usual commentary about every gift that was unwrapped. Needless to say if you were there that his humor contributed greatly to the fun of the evening. 2012 Person of the Year Jeanne Dart, Geri Smith and Barb Kowalk had the honor of presenting the "Person of the year" award for 2012. Along with Terry, Art and Norm a short list of candidates was considered for this honor. With so many deserving members choosing one over another is a difficult task however, after careful consideration, Fay Schroeder was selected as the 2012 "Person of the Year" in recognition of her long service to the club. Among her other activities she has organized the Father's Day nursing home tour for the past few years and before that was a key member of the Car Show/Swap meet at the Fairgrounds. Fay regularly contributes fresh ideas to the benefit of day to day operation of the club. Congratulations to Fay Schroeder, 2012 Person of the Year.
2012 Grand Ledge Color Cruise Car Show
The 2012 Grand Ledge Color Cruise and Island Festival Car Show was a RAINOUT. All events for the color cruise were cancelled and the car show was called off about 10:30 AM due to the weather. I would like to thank all the club volunteers that helped with the show and kept things running smoothly. I would also like to thank The Grand Ledge Police Department, Grand Ledge City Council, Color Cruise Committee, Grand Ledge Department of Public Works, Bob Mackie of L.A. Customs, Chuck Pantera and of course our main sponsors Marie Davis and Dave Kindy from Consumers Credit Union AND all the wonderful people that stopped by and enjoyed looking at the cars.
In keeping with
the tradition of the last three "person(s) of the year" making the selection for
this years candidates JP Jackson, After careful
deliberation they were privileged to present this years "Person(s) of the year"
award to Terry and Jean Dart for their unselfish dedication to the Capitol City
Old Car Club over the years and particularly for their efforts to raise funds
for deployed military families So Congratulations Jean and Terry, our Persons of the year, 2011. Photo courtesy of Barb Kowalk Special tribute to Mike and Maria Alexander owners of Olympic Broil Many of our members have enjoyed the free meal provided by Mike and Maria each Tuesday at their very successful Tuesday evening cruise-ins. In the recent past the Mid Michigan Street Rod Assoc. held dances there with live bands. These dances spanned 9 years and each year Roy Petersen from that organization did the artwork for a tee shirt for each dance. In appreciation of Mike and Maria's generosity Roy donated eight tee shirts which were then incorporated into a tee shirt quilt by his wife Maria and Geri Smith with the finish quilting done by Geri's daughter Kari. (Kariquilts.com) The quilt was presented to Mike and Maria on Tuesday Sept. 27th during the evening cruise-in. Maria may be keeping this close by judging from her smile.
Also presented was a large poster with artwork by Roy Petersen that had been offered to the cruisers over the past three weeks for them to sign their names. Stop by to see it.
